IT&E: IP Administration & Configuration Engineer

Job Summary:

The IP Administration & Configuration Engineer reports directly to the NOC manager.  The main task of this position is to analyze and review the network health from an IP infrastructure standpoint, and proactively recommend improvements to ensure capacities and performance are maintained.    The successful candidate must be able to understand MoP (Methods of Procedure) submitted for IP related works in the network and provide post activity impact analysis.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Know and uphold the established IT&E Mission, policies and procedures, IT&E and Department objectives, quality assurance and safety programs and standards.
  2. Review and approve parameter change request on the corporate and commercial IP network
  3. Coordinate troubleshooting and fault clearing with the IP Operation team and implement systemic changes as needed
  4. Analyze logs and alarms and provide first level isolation and troubleshooting, ensuring timely escalation to the 2nd level resolving units / SME and/or vendor support as needed.
  5. Act as the main interface with the vendor support for all IP operation related fault and outage troubleshooting and resolution
  6. Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly performance statistics base on set KPI as it relates to network health and customer experience and collaborate with the engineering teams for its resolution / improvement
  7. Assess network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the business. Provide network planning recommendations to management.
  8. Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned or required.

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Education:  Bachelor's degree in telecommunication or electrical engineering or related field from an accredited college or university, or a combination of technical training, either manufacturer or trade school, and equivalent years of relevant work experience

 

Work Experience: Minimum of four (4) years progressive experience in a telecommunication environment preferably handling technical support

 

Licensure/Certification/Professional Association:

ITIL, CompTIA A+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCSE preferred but not required

 

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of:
    1. 7 layers of the OSI model and its function
    2. TCP/IP, Ethernet, Routing & Switching
    3. Telecommunications standards and best practices
    4. IP Network security, VPN
    5. Routing and Switching for multi-vendor environment (Juniper MX/QFX and Cisco)
    6. Linux and other UNIX variants
    7. Principles and concepts of team building and resource management
  2. Skills in: 
    1. Preparing complex and technical written reports and analyses
    2. Using personal computer hardware, Microsoft software programs Project/program management, Microsoft Visio, CAD is preferred but not required
    3. MPLS, BGP, IS-IS, VRRP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, IPSEC, Virtual Chassis
    4. VLAN, 802.1Q, 802.3ad
    5. QoS, Traffic policy
    6. FTTx technology
    7. Telecommunications equipment such as Multiplexer, Router, Switches, RFC2544 test sets
  3. Ability to:
    1. Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with all levels of staff and customers, both verbally and in writing
    2. Supervise assigned professional and technical staff
    3. Analyze, understand, and interpret work situations, technical documents, reports and results
    4. Perform in a self-directed, hard-working, creative, and forward-thinking manner
