TUMON, GUAM — Hilton Guam Resort & Spa invites the community to mark Mes CHamoru on Monday, March 2 with an evening of art, heritage, and live performance in the Main Lobby. The celebration begins at 5:00 PM with the unveiling of Voyage of Connection, a kinetic wood sculpture crafted by Guam-based artist Francis Belandres. Inspired by the ancient traditions of Pacific voyaging, the work captures the rhythmic motion of canoe paddlers crossing open water — a tribute to the island communities that once journeyed across the sea to trade, share stories, and forge lasting bonds. "Immersed in the world of art and beauty, and inspired by island life, I carved my canoe to portray the rhythmic motion of canoe paddlers setting out on a far journey," said Belandres. "It honors the spirit of Pacific voyaging and the bonds formed between islands." At 5:30 PM, members of the Guma' i Mañe'lu Cultural Arts Program will lead interactive lessons of traditional flower mwarmwar and lei weaving, followed by live cultural dance performances honoring the artistry and spirit of the CHamoru people. Guma' i Mañe'lu performs every Tuesday and Saturday at 5:30 PM at the Tasi Lounge. "Mes CHamoru is a meaningful time for our island community," said Hiroki Sugie, General Manager of Hilton Guam Resort & Spa. "We are proud to support local artists and cultural practitioners, and to offer a space where guests and community members can come together to celebrate the traditions and stories of Guam." The event is free and open to the public.
